My coworker’s fiancée complains about hooligans with loud cars constantly ripping up and down their street. My coworker says he’s never heard on seen anything while he’s been at home. So knowing they were both at home, while we were in town today my roommate (also a coworker) convinced me (didn’t take much) that since the Niva’s pretty well straight piped, we should rip past their place. So I did a WOT 1st-gear pass.

Didn’t hit fuel cutoff till 7k.

SEVEN-FUCKING-THOUSAND.

7000 rpm.

Read it. Read it again. Then read it once more and weep, boys and girls. Weep. Because my Single-cam 8-valve Lada motor revs like a mofo.

Also I’m super excited because buddy over at LadaPower mailed my new transmission today. I kinda miss second gear.

Does it even have a fuel cut or does it limited by the valves floating?

7000? That’s quite a high red line

Around 6500rpm

Downright disrespectful for a BMW I6 :|

My rev limiter is like 5500 RPM. fuel cutoff for an earlier generation engine was around 7200 so I’d imagine it’s much the same.

Yes, but how many times will it rev like a mofo?

My friend’s neighbourhood used to be plagued by minibikes that would make all kinds of noise in the early ours of the morning. Then they ran over a lady and killed her in the local shopping centre car park and we haven’t heard them since.

Apparently that’s what it takes.

I’ve revved my rx7 to around 8500. Red line is 8k....No need to rev it more to find out, runs out of power around 7500 anyway.

shift light comes on at ~7500, redline is ~8200, fuel cutoff hits (ALARMINGLY) at ~8500

Definitely fuel-cutoff. With TBI and distributorless electronic ignition, seems like a no-brainer. While I can't say I've ever experienced valve-float, it definitely acted and sounded like fuel cutoff.

Lol. We are talking about a Lada here.

Herp-derp seven thousand, every minute.

But really, considering the last 9000 miles have been mostly above 4,000 rpm (60 mph in 4th is 4500) with no issues, I think she’ll be fine.

Tragic. Sometimes people seriously suck, and it’s unfortunate that such a thing would happen.

But the joke in this instance is that the fiancée is the only person on their street who has ever noticed anything, and she complains all the time.

But rest assured, this is the last time I'll do that. It's only funny once.

Wow. That’s nearly the same as my Fiesta, and turbo 4's aren’t really known for their high RPM.

M54B30 revs to 7000. There’s valve float at 7400 rpm. It’s pretty low for a BMW I6.

Well tbh going from the tach itself it’s yellow at 5500 and redline is 6k. I was honestly pretty surprised it pushed that far past without downshifting into it.

I’m more impressed with the fact that it didn’t rip itself apart at 7k than the fact it could get to 7k.

It happened once as a joke. Won’t happen again. Also it’s a super small town (<500 pop) and everyone knows everyone and everything that’s going on, and I really don’t need to be hated.

8500 RPM depending on temperature in a V10. I have no idea why I have any gear other than 3rd as I can pass any car on the freeway without thinking about fourth and first is clearly for climbing walls like spiderman on dexadrine.

If I ever have to pass someone in the Niva (it’s pretty rare) I’ll grab 3rd. She’ll be screaming at 5500rpm or so, but with only 80 hp if even that, there’s not much acceleration on tap in a higher gear.

I put it there more for other people. I just want a counter point out there when some casually mentions they drove their car very loudly past houses with the intent to disturb people.

Yessir it is! Hit the Aa in the right corner above a response. There’s bold and strikethrough also. It’s also where you can add pics and whatnot.
